Coupons Deactivated

Coupons Banner

I just uncovered a flaw in the Woocommerce Coupons System that was badly abused by a surprising number of people.   Due to the flaw in the coupon system and the dozens of non-qualifying “orders” that were placed at heavy discounts of 75% to 100% off of the products offered here, I have had to discontinue the upgrade coupon program for Store Locator Plus 4.

It is nice to know so many people like the Store Locator Plus plugin and add-on packs enough to want to go through the effort to take advantage of the coupon flaw to gain access to the add-on packs.   The total amount of discounts may have exceeded sales this month.  I won’t know for certain until I finish calculating the tally.    The unfortunate side effect is less time that can be spent working on new features and bug fixes.

If you have purchased Store Locator Plus version 3 products in the past and believe your purchases qualify for a discount, please contact me.  Send me your Store Locator Plus 3 order number or PayPal transaction ID and I will create a one-time-use custom coupon for your upgrade purchase.    Since Store Locator Plus 4 has been out for 6 months the 100% off coupon, which was the most-often abused, will no longer be available.   If you purchased Store Locator Plus version 3 add-on packs within the past 365 days I will offer a 75% discount on the SLP4 compatible version of the add-on pack you had purchased previously.

I apologize for the extra work that some customers will be required to undertake due to this issue.

Store Locator Plus 4 – First 48 Hours

WordPress Bug Squash Banner

It has been a very hectic 48 hours since the launch of Store Locator Plus 4.   Luckily is has been going well for most users, both new users and those that upgraded.   However it has not been without issue.   Here are the main topics of discussion, both public and private, that have been going on with the SLP4 release on Monday.

Add Location Bug

Some sites that upgraded from SLP3 to SLP4 are having issues with the manual add locations form.   The bulk import of Pro Pack is working, however.

I have isolated the problem to the way the add location form is rendered.   The name field on the add location form should have an input id of ‘store-‘.   If it does not the system will not load the location.   I am still trying to determine why some systems are not rendering the add location form properly.

I have several theories including the overloaded indexes on servers that have been running SLP3 for several upgrade iterations.   A bug in the WordPress dbDelta function creates duplicate indexes in MySQL which causes the Store Locator Plus table to exceed the 64 index limit on the table.    Luckily I found a workaround to the WordPress bug that prevents the duplicate indexes in the SLP4 releases.  Manually removing the sl_store_#, sl_longitude_#, and sl_latitude_# index entries, deactivating, then re-activating the base Store Locator Plus plugin will ensure the indexes and base wp_store_locator table are configured properly.  You can use a tool like phpMyAdmin to remove the excess indexes or get to the MySQL command line and use the “show index in wp_store_locator” command to list the duplicates followed by “drop index sl_store_2 on wp_store_locator” for each of the excess indexes.    If you are comfortable with this process I recommend checking the indexes and dropping the extras even if you are not having add location problems.   Excess indexes slow down adds and updates in the database.

There may also be a problem with how the form is rendered but I cannot reproduce the problem on my development systems.   After performing the above index clean up and adding a line of debugging to the live server that did reproduce the issues has caused the problem to go away.

I’m still chasing this issue and hope to have a patch today.

Using Coupons

A lot of people are confused about the coupons for discounted upgrades for SLP4 versions of the product.  Here is the process to get a discount:

Login to www.charlestonsw.com using the login that contains the purchases of your SLP3 versions of the add-on packs.

Go to the Store Locator Plus 4 Add On List and click on those add-on packs you purchased in the past.

You will see 2 coupons above the order button for the SLP4 version.   If a coupon says “expired” your purchases do not qualify for that specific discount.

Copy the unexpired coupon code for either 100% off (purchased SLP3 within past 30 days) or 75% off (purchased SLP within past year).

Click order.

Paste the coupon into the “apply coupons” box.

Click apply.

You will see the discount in the total for your order.

If you have made a qualifying purchase within the past year but did not do so through the shopping cart on this site you will need to email me with a copy of your original purchase receipt or PayPal transaction ID so I can send you a one-time-use coupon.

Plugin Update System – Preparing for SLP4

Plugins V4 V3 and Docs Banner

The last Beta Test Group release of Store Locator Plus 4 (SLP4) went out last Friday.  This week will be spent cleaning up the last of the bug list and preparing the website for the public launch of SLP4.     You may have noticed that the SLP4 product line went online on the Charleston Software Associates website.    The 4.0 versions of the add-on packs and the main Store Locator Plus plugin are now available for public purchase, however they are still considered beta products at this point in time.

The next series of updates for the Store Locator Plus 4 product line will go out via the formal public release.   The Beta Test Group will need to download the patches from their account login at the CSA Website.    Beta Test Group users that have been selected for the free SLP4 upgrade will find the SLP4 products in their account. All other customers will need to purchase the SLP4 compatible add-on packs using the coupon links that will appear in their account after logging in to the CSA Website.   More details will follow when the coupons have been published.

In the next series of updates for the add-on packs and the SLP4 base plugin there will be a hook the built-in WordPress update check system that will now select the proper major release and check if there is an update available for the plugin.    Thus if your site is running SLP4 with Pro Pack 4 the server will check for new version of Pro Pack 4 whenever WordPress update checks are executed.   If there is a new version of the Pro Pack 4 add-on pack your admin panel will indicate an update is available.   The latest zip file can be downloaded and installed in the same fashion as plugins or add-on packs that are listed in the public WordPress Plugin Directory.

The same is true for Store Locator Plus version 3 and the SLP3 compatible add-on packs.   However as of today Store Locator Plus 3 and the related add-on packs will no longer be developed or updated.   All patches and updates will be provided in Store Locator Plus 4 and the compatible add-on packs only unless there is a reported security vulnerability in the Store Locator Plus 3 product line.

Upgrading SLP3

When the production release of Store Locator Plus 4 ships, the main WordPress Plugin Directory will be updated to host SLP4DO NOT UPGRADE TO THIS VERSION IF YOU ARE RUNNING SLP3 ADD-ON PACKS.    If you are running version 3.X of Store Locator Plus with any of the add-on packs activated you must disable all of the add-on packs before upgrading to SLP4.   Before re-activating the plugins you will need to purchase the SLP4 compatible release.

SLP4 Discounts

Discount coupons for the SLP4 version of add-on packs that you have purchased in the past should be available in the next week or less.    The discount will be 100% if you purchase the SLP4 release within 30 days of purchasing your SLP3 add-on pack.    The discount will be 75% for anyone that purchased the SLP3 add-on pack within 365 days of upgrading to SLP4.     No other discounts will be offered.  The discounts will be a rolling window; if you are thinking about upgrading to SLP4 y ou will want to do it sooner rather than later.

Refunds will not be offered on purchases made using coupons.
